Rust server monitoring
KeenCrow asks your Rust server for its status through the Steam query and alerts you when it stops answering. Each check shows the server name, the map and how many players are on.
Use the query port
Rust answers the Steam query on its query port, which is set separately from the port players join on. Look for server.queryport in your startup command or at your host and enter that port with the server address. If the free check says the server does not answer, the port is the first thing to look at.
Wipe day and everyday outages
- Forced wipes and updates. Facepunch releases the monthly update on the first Thursday of the month, and servers are down while they update and wipe. Press Pause in your dashboard before you start, so the planned downtime does not count as an outage, and Resume afterwards.
- Crashes. A plugin error or running out of memory can stop the server. If nothing restarts it, it stays down until someone notices.
- The host. A reboot or a network problem looks the same from outside: no answer.
One missed answer never alerts. Three misses in a row confirm the outage, then you get one message, and one more when the server is back.
Plans
The free plan checks one server every 5 minutes with email alerts. Starter checks 3 servers every minute and posts to your Discord for $2 a month. See everything game server monitoring does.
